How to encourage your landlord to upgrade

.
The new 2022 smoke alarm laws for rental properties in Queensland represent a significant change in compliance obligations for landlords.

Getting the message to your owners about having to spend money is not an easy one.

However this is important legislation and you don’t want your landlords in a position where they have left it too late and can’t get a technician, have to pay more or, even worse, end up with a vacant property.

Safety Watch are here to make it easy for you and your landlords to upgrade to the 2022 smoke alarm legislation.

Here are some tips on how to get your owners to take action.

Get in before tax time

Encourage your owners to book in their upgrades before the end of the financial year so they can get their return sooner.

Convey the urgency to act now

According to industry only around 25% of Queensland rental properties have been upgraded even though this legislation was introduced back in 2017. This means that 75% need to be upgraded this year alone. With over 560,000 rental properties in Queensland it is predicted that there will be a shortage of good, qualified technicians and product which will potentially force the price up. If your owners don’t act soon they may find themselves paying significantly more, having substandard products that need replacing, or even worse, ending up with a vacant property come 2022.
